No matter if you’re a skilled hacker, an occasional custom ROM user or a more modest Android lover who’s heard of unofficial replacement firmwares, but hasn’t had the guts to flash one yet, you have to hand it to the CyanogenMod team – they’ve managed to do so much with so little and so quickly.
It seems like only yesterday CM made its first shy steps in the beautiful AOSP universe, with a Froyo-based OS, and now they’re already working hard on providing a strong and reliable Jelly Bean alternative while the ICS-based CM9 is still blowing millions of people’s minds.

We’ve suspected for a while that CM10 was going to be legendary once it was going to be deemed stable, but we’re hearing all sorts of exciting new things that make us think we’re still underestimating the project’s potential.
The latest app to be added to CM10 is CyanogenMod’s own File Manager, which will replace the previously included OI File Manager. This new feature not only looks clean and elegant, but it follows the dev team’s credo by the letter, being “seamless in its implementation, intuitive in its usage and functional to a large group of users”.

CM’s File Manager features a Holo themed UI and allows users to view files and folders in their Android devices as icons, in a list or detailed list. The three different access modes are however the highlight of this new app, making sure that the File Manager will suit everyone’s needs, from “professional” rooters to less skilled individuals in the software tweaking department.
You’ll therefore start in safe mode, which will forbid inexperienced users from deleting important files or folders, and if you feel up to it you can then either choose the prompt user or root access mode. The first will warn you every time you’re trying to do something dangerous, while the second will leave you do whatever crosses your mind.
Cool, eh? What’s even cooler is the File Manager will be added to all CM10 devices starting with the next nightly builds, while if you want to try the app by itself you can get it from here or here. Be careful though, because it should only work on rooted AOSP-based Jelly Bean devices for now.
